“Fuck Xanax”: Lil Pump Says He’s Done With His Favorite Drug

After spending most 2017 proclaiming Xanax as “the wave,” Florida rapper Lil Pump has done an about-face, taking to social media to swear f his favorite drug.

“I don’t take xanz no more fuck Xanax 2018,” Pump wrote on Instagram. 

While it's important to remember that actions speak louder than words, or in this case, an Instagram caption, Pump's declaration is important.

The 17-year-old had a breakthrough year in 2017, which included releasing a self-titled commercial mixtape and seeing his single “Gucci Gang” rise up the Billboard Hot 100 to No. 3. With increased attention and awareness on his star, and following the death fellow rapper Lil Peep, who passed away last November an accidental drug overdose from the combined toxic effects fentanyl and alprazolam, Pump had to recognize—or he was told by a very responsible adult—that his every action on Instagram and Twitter carried with an increased amount social responsibility.

Considering Pump's persona both online and in person is directly connected to the glamorization Xanax (as well as Percocet, a drug he has not publically sworn f), it will be interesting to see how his public divorce from the drug will impact his relationship with his fanbase, if at all. Will fans who subscribed to Pump's “Xanax wave” follow his lead and also quit the drug? Or will they label him a turncoat and quit him instead?

Pump isn't the only Floridian rapper who rose to fame in 2017 who says he's no longer messing with the highly addictive anti-anxiety medication, either. “We leaving Xanax in 2017,” friend and fellow buzzmaker Smokepurpp tweeted on New Year's Eve.
