After a 16-year hiatus, Smokin’ Grooves is back. The influential ‘90s-era tour will resume for one day in June and it boasts an all-star lineup hip-hop and R&B acts.
Music superstars Erykah Badu, the Roots, Miguel, Busta Rhymes, Jhené Aiko, Yasiin Bey, Thundercat, dvsn, NxWorries (Anderson. Paak + Knxwledge) and more are on the performer’s list.
The Smokin' Grooves Tour was formed in the 1990s as the antithesis to rock-heavy tours like the Warped Tour and Lollapalooza. The trek delivered performances from the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B. The inaugural tour in 1996 featured the Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, the Roots, Cypress Hill and Michael Franti & Spearhead.
Ms. Badu first performed on the Smokin’ Grooves Tour's second year in 1997 alongside Foxy Brown, Cypress Hill, George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars and Outkast.
“Smokin’ Grooves is a showcase the best that live music has to fer,” said Cara Lewis, founding creator the Smokin' Grooves Tour ( Billboard). “I’m excited to present a special one-day Smokin’ Grooves festival in Long Beach this June. The tour will return to 13 to 15 markets in 2019 with a multi-act bill that will thrive in a lane its own."
The Smokin’ Grooves Fest will take place at the Queen Mary Events Park in Long Beach, Calif., on June 16. Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday (April 24) at smokinggroovesfest.com.
