Los Angeles, CA – Jadakiss recently stopped by GroovyTracks headquarters in the heart of Hollywood to discuss a myriad of topics, including the current state of rap and his time with Def Jam Recordings.
During the conversation, the LOX MC also touched on working with The Notorious B.I.G., his favorite rapper.
“Just the way he could conduct a studio session with so much going on and then the final product was incredible,” he said around the 6:40-minute mark. “You just like, ‘How did he think of that?’ The girls, the old Junior M.A.F.I.A. — it’s like party session, but he was still able to focus and weed all that out, concentrate and lock in on the song or the topic or whatever he was doing and make the shit come out amazing.
“For the most part the whole Life After Death album, we was there for that.”
Kiss also talked about challenging 50 Cent to a $1 million rap battle at Madison Square Gardens.
“That’s just something I thought of,” he explained around the 23-minute mark. “Battling is therapeutic for Hip Hop, but you can’t take it serious. I mean, you gotta take it serious when you preparing your material for your opponent, but when it affects you harder when you let it get too personal, that’s when it’s gonna take away from your vigorous striking.
“You gotta have fun with it and find ways to use it to your advantage. I felt like that was a walk in the park for me, an easy payday.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Kiss talked about the time Styles P threw a chair at Diddy, Eminem’s Jadakiss nod on “Til I Collapse,” what keeps him motivated and his forthcoming album.
