Drake had quite the eventful Monday (Feb. 5) when he took a breather from his “God's Plan” video shoot in Miami to visit a few local schools. After gifting the Miami Senior High School a $25,000 donation and OVO-designed uniforms, it seems like Drake was in the giving mood and surprised a University Miami student with a $50,000 check towards her tuition.
Taking to Instagram to announce the generous donation, the student, named Destiny James according to her Insta prile, posted a photo with Drake holding up a large $50,000 check and wrote a lengthy post thanking the 6 God for his good deed.
James said that she applied for and received multiple scholarships. She assumed no more scholarships would come but was fered to do a video discussing her background and the importance scholarships. Much to her surprise, the video shoot wasn't actually real and as she was shooting it Drake appeared and surprised her with the donation.
“Drake told me that he has read great things about me and appreciates how hard I've worked through so many trials and decided to give me $50K for my tuition. @champagnepapi THANK YOU SO MUCH!!' You don't understand what this means to me,” she wrote. “I would've never imagined this happening to me. I'm just a girl from Denmark, SC that wants to MAKE IT and be somebody and for you to see my hard work means the world. Thank you so much. God I thank you.”
After breaking Spotify and Apple Music's single-day streaming record, Drake's “God's Plan” soared to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Diplomatic Immunity” entering the chart at No. 7.
Billboard has reached out to Drake's reps for comment.
