Fort Lauderdale, FL – YNW Melly was in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida courthouse on Wednesday (March 11) where the gravity of his situation didn’t appear to phase him.
Dressed in prison black and whites, the 20-year-old rapper sat shackled in the courtroom with a giant smiled plastered on his face as a team of lawyers updated the judge on his double homicide case.
Melly and fellow crew member YNW Bortlen stand accused of killing their two friends Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. in 2018. According to Complex, there’s no indication Melly will be getting released anytime soon as lawyers continue to prepare for trial with a raft of depositions.
Earlier this week, Melly posted a cryptic Instagram post that included the date 3/13.
One of Melly’s attorneys, Raven Ramona Liberty, appeared to address the post when she said, “Big things are going to happen tomorrow,” perhaps indicating a potential single release featuring the late Juice Wrld.
Melly’s mother, younger brother, rapper YNW BSlime, his grandfather and a group of friends showed up to support him but were quickly asked to leave once bailiffs got tired of their silent communication.
Melly and Bortlen have been locked up since last year. They are both charged with two counts of first degree murder. Bortlen also faces two counts of accessory after the fact.
If convicted, Melly reportedly faces the death penalty.
