Dallas Rapper Bobby Sessions Joins Def Jam

The latest signee to Def Jam Recordings is Dallas rapper Bobby Sessions. 

In 2015, Sessions quit his day job to pursue his dreams and doing music full time. He dropped his debut album, Law Attraction (LOA) a year later, influenced by Jay-Z, James Brown and N.E.R.D.

He hopes to motivate people through his complex lyrics and music worthy speaking for itself, with no explanation needed. Through his current label, High Standardz, the deal was approved by newly appointed Def Jam president, Paul Rosenberg.

In an interview with Say CheeseTV, Sessions said it was important for him to establish himself in Dallas, despite people telling him to move to cities with more an industry presence, such as Los Angeles and New York.

“Even though we’re still with Def Jam, our goals is to still to build a legendary legacy in Dallas,” Sessions said, also referring to Def Jam as the “greatest record label all time.” “So the fact that we can join forces with them is everything.”

Last year, his sophomore album, Grateful, earned two Dallas Observer Music Awards, for best rap/hip-hop act and best song (“Dollars & Sense”). Watch him discuss his signing with Say Cheese TV here.
