As mentioned by Nicki, merely weeks after “MotorSport” was released, Cardi told Capital Xtra‘s host, “When I heard the track, her verse wasn’t finished — well, it’s not the verse that is out right now — and Quavo told me to get on the song and I just felt like it was a perfect opportunity for me to be on a track that’s big like them… Cause those are two big people.”
After sharing that she felt “ambushed” after the track’s release, Nicki talked about the aftermath Cardi’s interview and the effect it had on her.
“At the time I went on Twitter, and I explained how ‘MotorSport’ came about. And, you know, people were saying that I was lying,” Nicki continued. “So I texted Quavo, and I said ‘Hey, could you back me up on this? Because, you know, I don’t want people to think I’m lying. What do I have to lie about?’ And he didn’t back me up. He texted me, and he was like, ‘I would go on Twitter and back you up if you were my girl lol.’ And that hurt, because I love him.” She continued, “Quavo told me, ‘I’m not gonna go on Twitter and address that s**t man. If I do a interview, then I’ll address it.’ And I was like, ‘Yikes.’”
“It hurt my feelings to know that people would watch me be slaughtered, and not one person will step in to say the truth. They will run with that lie …] because it’s entertaining to make Nicki like a bad guy,” she said.
