This year, Black Music Month takes a different turn. Because of the horrific deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and more, we at Billboard hope to uplift and empower African Americans during this cloudy and dubious time. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the remainder of the month, an artist will provide a playlist designed to remedy the heartaches endured by the Black community.
After hurling out his promising debut album last year titled Lil Big Man, Los Angeles MC, Maxo, comes to the forefront with his “Stop Killin’ N—-s” playlist. By enlisting Nas, Common, Jill Scott and more, Maxo hopes his 10-track collection can illuminate the importance of preserving Black lives.
“I’m tired of seeing whitey on the moon. My brothers and sisters are dying. I pray for transparency moving forward,” he tells Billboard.
