“We see the hype outside/ Right from the…” Billboard Hot 100 today (May 4) as “The Scotts” skyrockets to No. 1, earning Kid Cudi his first No. 1 song and Travis Scott his third.
“THIS MEANS SO MUCH TO ME!!! IVE BEEN IN THIS GAME FOR 12 YEARS AND I FINALLY DID THIS W MY MUTHAF—IN BROTHER!” he wrote on Twitter to celebrate the news. “TO MY PARTNER IN RAGE TRAVIS AND ALL MY FANS AROUND THE WORLD THAT SUPPORTED US AND GOT US ON LISTS, I F—IN LOVE YOU!!”
The 36-year-old rapper also posted a picture of the May 9-dated Hot 100 chart on his Instagram, writing to his fans, “all because of YOU. I love yall!! So so much.”
Scott (real name Jacques Webster II) posted this week’s top 10 Hot 100 tracks on his Instagram, giving the praise mostly to his collaborator, whom he chose his real name Scott Mescudi for his stage name. “mannnnnnnn to be up here with this guy who took over the moon and brought joy into this world is everything. !!!! The rage. Mannn love every single person out there that listen and have been on this journey…. Rage forever kids @cactusjack @kidcudi,” the 28-year-old rapper said.
“The Scotts” also lands atop Billboard‘s Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales charts, thus scoring another couple of firsts for Cudi.
The overall success of “The Scotts,” billed under the same name because both rappers have Scott in their names, comes from its debut on Scott’s Astronomical three-night concert experience on Fornite‘s largest in-game event yet with 12 million viewers, which began last Thursday night (April 23) and ended last Saturday night (April 25). Fans started streaming and purchasing the single when it promptly arrived at midnight ET last Friday, April 24.
Cudi first etched his name into the Hot 100 tally on May 8, 2009 with his previously highest-charting hit “Day ‘N’ Nite,” as the hip-hop artist ends an almost exactly 11-year wait for his first chart-topper.
