Beyoncé‘s BeyGOOD philanthropic initiative announced an extensive coronavirus relief plan to help those most affected by the global pandemic on Thursday (April 23).
“Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD recognizes the immense mental and personal health burdens being placed on essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. In our major cities, African-Americans comprise a disproportionate number of workers in these indispensable occupations, and they will need mental health support and personal wellness care, including testing and medical services, food supplies and food deliveries, both during and after the crisis,” the charitable initiative shared in a statement on the superstar’s official website.
As such, BeyGOOD has committed to providing $6 million in funding to mental health and wellness services, thanks to partnerships with UCLA and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s #startsmall initiative. The singer’s philanthropic arm is also working with the National Alliance in Mental Illness to provide on-the-ground mental health support to those in need in cities including New York, Detroit, New Orleans and Beyoncé’s native Houston.
The announcement arrives just days after the superstar used her platform during the One World: Together at Home benefit special to speak out regarding the deadly toll the coronavirus is taking on Black Americans throughout the country.
