Like so many Americans, Dave Grohl is super bored during the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine. With touring on hold and Californians on mandatory stay-at-home lockdown, the Foo Fighters frontman has decided what America needs now is some good old-fashioned story time. So on Tuesday (March 24), he launched a new Instagram series, “Dave’s True Stories,” where he says he’ll spin a few yarns from his life.
“Hi, my name is Dave,” Grohl wrote in his first missive. “Sometimes I play drums. Sometimes I play guitar. Sometimes I tell stories. I’m currently looking for work, so I’d thought I’d pass the time by writing short stories that will make people smile.” If he’s being honest, he’s also doing it because, he’s a self-described “total f—ing spaz who can’t sit around doing nothing.”
Grohl pays homage to his mother, a “brilliant English teacher,” as well as his dad, a “wicked speechwriter,” in the post, explaining that he decided to rebel by not paying attention to grammar and/or punctuation in school. “That and cranking death metal 24/7 from my bedroom stereo,” he adds. “So… have mercy. Not going for a Nobel Prize in Literature here.”
Grohl signs off by saying that he’s looking forward to sharing some of the “more ridiculous moments of my life with you,” with the important reminder: “wash your f—ing hands.” Grohl and the Foos had to postpone their planned 25th anniversary Van Tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the April dates pushed back to December and no information at press time on plans for the May shows.
