As Pop Smoke‘s death continues to rattle the hip-hop community, one rapper is looking to push forward his legacy. On Sunday night (March 1), 50 Cent announced his desire to not only finish Smoke’s album, but executive produce it, as well.
“I’m on the move listening to Pop smoke, I decided I’m gonna executive produce and finish his album for him,” he wrote on Instagram.
Pop Smoke was shot and killed at a Los Angeles residence last month. Weeks before his death, the 20-year-old Brooklyn star released his new project, Meet the Woo 2, which debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200.
After his announcement, 50 quickly began his reach-outs for features, beginning with rising heavyweight (and reigning Billboard Hot 100 leader) Roddy Ricch. “Tell @roddyricch i’m looking for him, i need him on Pop album,” 50 also declared on Instagram. Shortly after, Ricch responded with a handshake emoji, punctuated with a “Sayless.” In addition, 50 asked Chris Brown and Drake for their help in completing Smoke’s debut effort.
Smoke’s manager, Steven Victor, confirmed to HipHop-N-More on Instagram that he’s fully on-board with 50 taking the lead on completing his protege’s album.
