While public opinion Kanye West’s shattered-glass new album Ye has been largely mixed, “Ghost Town” has gotten good marks — lending plenty to its North Bergen, New Jersey-bred guest star, 070 Shake. Now, Shake has followed on the promise her commanding “Ghost Town” hook for a video for her emotive new track, “Mirrors.”
The song and video are both sparse and dreamy, with Shake crooning about “escaping from her demons” over droning synths and trap hats — and cruising down the coast in a Mustang in the video. But the low-key vibe it all belies a serious potential for star power — ever since Ye dropped last friday, Twitter’s been scrambling to catch up on her EP, which came out on G.O.O.D. Music back in March.
The emotions expressed in “Mirrors” are stark, not necessarily pretty, with the artist's voice careening out control even through an Auto-Tuned fog. But coming f “Ghost Town,” it’d be foolish to not watch 070 Shake as an artist Kanye's equal for turning heads through gnarly confessions.
