Fresh off news of her upcoming book Split Tooth, Tanya Tagaq has unveiled some brand new music.
The Polaris Music Prize-winning throat singer has teamed up with Damian Abraham of (the also Polaris-winning) Fucked Up for a rework of Iron Maiden‘s “Run to the Hills.”
The new version of the tune also features contributions from Tagaq’s regular collaborators, producer/violinist Jesse Zubot and percussionist Jean Martin.
Following in line with Tagaq’s previous covers of songs like Pixies’ “Caribou” and Nirvana’s “Rape Me,” “Run to the Hills” gets entirely recontextualized by the Inuk artist, adding a palpable sense of “immediacy, gravity and winking irony.”
Listen to “Run to the Hills” below.
As previously reported, Split Tooth is due out September 25 Viking Canada. You can pre-order it over here.
